Follow these tips to ensure that you don’t miss any of the important steps to changing your last name after the wedding:

Order Copies Of Certified Marriage License:
The marriage license typically takes about two weeks to be returned and recorded. You will then be able to order a few certified copies of your marriage license, which you will need to present with every name-changing activity.

Driver's License:
Visit the website for your state’s Department Of Motor Vehicles to determine what information is needed in order to process your name change on your license. You will typically need to visit your local DMV and provide your license, certified marriage license, proof of insurance, and pay a fee for the name-change service.

Social Security Card:
Visit your local Social Security office to change your name on your Social Security Card. Details on what is needed to change your name can be found at the link below:

Employment Records:
Contact your employer’s Human Resource department to inform them of your name change.

Financial Institutions:
Contact your banks, credit card companies, and other important institutions to process the name change.

Passport:
Change your last name on your Passport. Details on what is needed to change your name can be found at the link below:

Knock out your “Something Old” and “Something Blue” with a beautiful blue vintage brooch. Attach the brooch to your bouquet, bridal sash, or even transform it into a pendant that can be worn on a necklace chain.

Type in “Blue Vintage Brooch” in the Etsy search string box and your search result will reveal thousands of shapes and styles to choose from. Check out some lovely pieces I found during my search this morning:

Yesterday, I blogged about “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe.” Stick with tradition and purchase your authentic wedding day sixpence from Silver Sixpence. These genuine English coins start at $8.95 with the option to choose a year that may be of special importance to the bride and her family. Each sixpence comes with a lovely card that explains the tradition of the sixpence in the shoe. Makes a wonderful gift for the bride-to-be!

Something Old, New, Borrowed, Blue... 12/11/2011

The complete original saying is: "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe." The last part often gets left out, but is very important as it speaks to the origin of this tradition. A sixpence was a silver coin worth six pennies in England between 1551 and 1967. It is often inferred from this information that the tradition is of English descent dating back to the Victorian era.

Something Old – This symbolizes the bride’s connection with her family and her past. Family heirlooms such as vintage engagement rings, wedding rings, veils, and details from a mother or grandmother’s wedding dress are wonderful ideas. Embroidered handkerchiefs are also very popular.

Something New – This symbolizes the optimism for the new life that the bride will begin. The item often comes in the form of a gift from the groom’s family to signify the connection between the bride and her future family. Wedding gowns, lingerie, jewelry, and other new accessories are great choices.

Something Borrowed – This symbolizes that the bride’s family and friends are there for her on her wedding day. The item usually comes from a happily married friend or family member to signify that some of the wedded bliss will rub off on the bride herself. Veils, headpieces, shoes, and jewelry that friends and family members wore at their weddings are perfect choices.

Something Blue – Incorporating something blue to the wedding day attire means love, faithfulness, purity, and loyalty in many cultures. Blue lingerie, hair accessories, and wedding bouquet florals are very popular picks.

Sixpence – I explained earlier what the sixpence is; but how does it fit in? The sixpence is traditionally placed in the bride’s shoe to attract wealth to her new marriage. Some say that a bride has the best luck when the sixpence is placed in her left shoe. Pennies and other coins can be used in place of the sixpence.
